WHAT DO I NEED TO ATTEND?We are a school for novices to wheelies, if you can already do them you will be wasting your time and money coming to us! You require: 1. Your FULL UNRESTRICTED motorcycle licence or current ACU licence. 2. Crash helmet, preferably full faced. 3. Motorcycle leathers (one or two piece), or textile armoured motorcycle clothing. 4. Leather boots which cover the ankles. 5. Motorcycle gloves. 6. A packed lunch (this allows us to keep lunch time down to around 20 minutes). 7. A good attitude to learning, if you are a lunatic, maniac, show off, idiot etc. please, please, please do NOT book with us. We only want people attending our school who want to learn and improve their skills!
Why We Teach The Way We DoAt the wheelie school we mainly cater for people that either have never done a wheelie, or are fairly new to it. We teach you to bring the front wheel up using the power. The reason for this is simple, the first step to doing great wheelies, is to get comfortable with the wheel in the air. By learning to "power" the bike up you only really have one control to think about, the throttle. At novice level the fear factor is high enough, that if you throw other controls into the equation, such as clutch and brakes, it is very easy to make a hash of it, scare yourself witless and never do another wheelie again. Our method has been devoloped by our instructor of ten years + experience, and run by some of the top stunt riders in the country, who agree it is the best way to learn. Once you have mastered powering it up, and are 100% confident with your front wheel high in the air, you will naturally evolve different methods of getting it up, but will be safer and smoother while you are on the back wheel. Bear in mind that schools that offer to teach fancy launch techniques are teaching just that, a launch technique. We try and encourage the wheelie - the riding of the motorcycle on one wheel. Launch techniques and controlling a wheelie are two completely different things. The proof is in the pudding! Check out the galleries, they are a random selection of lads that have been through the school. Bear in mind though that a photo is just a fraction of a second in time so can't tell the whole story, to that end you can't get a guage on the distance or quality of the wheelies the guys are doing. Very soon we will be adding a video section to this site that will be updated very regularly, so you can see for yourself that we see people doing nice high, smooth, 150m+ wheelies on a very regular, almost daily, basis.Remember, anyone can flick a wheel into the air and crunch it back down again, it's the art of controlling the bike while the wheel is up that eludes most.
Wheelie School Questions & AnswersBefore you go to any wheelie school, there are a handful of questions that you should ask before making your final decision: Will I be taught by highly experienced professional stunters who have a provable teaching history from within the stunt riding world? Will I be taught a good, confidence-inspiring method developed by instructors, that through years of teaching all methods, have come up with the best, most pleasant way to learn - or is some wheelie-munger just going to try and get across to me the way he does it? Will I be taught to wheelie by using my own riding skills rather than having to rely on any device/s that may be fitted to the bike/for sale?!? These may sound like stupid questions, but more and more schools are opening up around the UK with absolutely nothing to stop people with no experience or even correct, safe riding techniques, teaching at them. Some of these people were even taught to wheelie by us! If the instructors can't prove they have legitimate teaching credentials from respectable sources then how do you know what they're teaching is correct? It doesn't matter if they've only been open one day, or they've been around for decades, if they can't prove their instructors are professionals then you could be putting your safety, and even life, at risk. Wheelies are a damn site more than just getting the front wheel in the air! Can my day at The Wheelie School be affected by the weather? Yes, which is why we have a Wet Weather Guarantee. If the weather is inclement then safety must take priority. If we believe it is not safe to teach then we won't - you're safety always comes first. It's also worth remembering that very few people can ride to their full capabilities in rain, for example. If you can't give 100% then you won't enjoy your day as much as you should, nor will you learn what you're truly capable of achieving. In this event we will re-book your day. While we are a business, your safety always comes before profit. Although this open-minded approach does not help us as a company, our goal has to be to teach you correctly, in a safe environment, where your confidence can soar! Be Sensible And Choose Carefully!
