We are a school for novices to wheelies, if you can already do them you will be wasting your time and money coming to us!
You require:
1. Your FULL UNRESTRICTED motorcycle licence or current ACU licence.
2. Crash helmet, preferably full faced.
3. Motorcycle leathers (one or two piece), or textile armoured motorcycle clothing.
4. Leather boots which cover the ankles.
5. Motorcycle gloves.
6. A packed lunch (this allows us to keep lunch time down to around 20 minutes).
7. A good attitude to learning, if you are a lunatic, maniac, show off, idiot etc. please, please, please do NOT book with us. We only want people attending our school who want to learn and improve their skills!
At the wheelie school we mainly cater for people that either have never done a wheelie, or are fairly new to it. We teach you to bring the front wheel up using the power. The reason for this is simple, the first step to doing great wheelies, is to get comfortable with the wheel in the air. By learning to "power" the bike up you only really have one control to think about, the throttle. At novice level the fear factor is high enough, that if you throw other controls into the equation, such as clutch and brakes, it is very easy to make a hash of it, scare yourself witless and never do another wheelie again. Our method has been devoloped by our instructor of twenty years + instructional experience, and the technique has been 'run by' some of the top stunt riders and performers in the country, who agree it is the best way to learn. Once you have mastered powering it up, and are 100% confident with your front wheel high in the air, you will naturally evolve different methods of getting it up, but will be safer and smoother while you are on the back wheel.
Bear in mind that schools that offer to teach fancy launch techniques are teaching just that, a launch technique. We try and encourage the wheelie - the riding of the motorcycle on one wheel. Launch techniques and controlling a wheelie are two completely different things. Our method has been developed over years instructing for one of the worlds leading military Motorcycle display teams.
Check out the galleries, they are a random selection of people that have been through the school. Bear in mind though that a photo is just a fraction of a second in time so can't tell the whole story, to that end you can't get a guage on the distance or quality of the wheelies the guys are doing. Very soon we will be adding a video section to this site that will be updated very regularly, so you can see for yourself that we see people doing nice high, smooth, 100m+ wheelies on a very regular basis.
There is no right or wrong technique to learning, we teach the easiest method which gets great results and is the basis for all things wheelie!
YES! Exactly reason we use the bar on the back of the bike. This allows real life learning, the idea is to start at ground level and work your way up as the day goes on and confidence builds. The bar is simply a last resort in case you over cook it! No bluffs, no bull, no gimmicks just quality instruction and a standard road bike to practice on. Real life is the only way to learn, after all the next wheelie you do will be on your bike.
We aim to teach you how to teach yourselves wheelies so when you get onto to your bike you understand the mechanics of wheelies and can alpy the technique.
Yes, which is why we have a Wet Weather Guarantee. If the weather is inclement then safety must take priority. If we believe it is not safe to teach then we won't - you're safety always comes first. It's also worth remembering that very few people can ride to their full capabilities in rain, for example. If you can't give 100% then you won't enjoy your day as much as you should, nor will you learn what you're truly capable of achieving. In this event we will re-book your day.
While we are a business, your safety always comes before profit. Although this open-minded approach does not help us as a company, our goal has to be to teach you correctly, in a safe environment, where your confidence can soar!
Because we won't disappoint you. We don't teach people to wheelie so that when they leave our school they have to rely on anything other than thier own skills. We don't teach people to just whack the throttle open. Our wheelie bars are there to try and stop you flipping the bike and for no other reason. We do not teach riders to rely on the wheelie bar to control the height of the bike as that teaches the rider nothing at all.
We aim to teach you how to teach yourself wheelies, after all we only have one day with you. The more information you can leave with, the better. Throttle control, machine control, technique. Quite simply, we teach you how to wheelie properly. We won't guarantee that by the end of your day you'll be a wheelie god or that you'll even get the front wheel airbourne because we would be lying ... we are VERY good at what we do though!
What we can tell you is that we've almost always succeeded in taking novice stunters to the point where they can control a wheelie properly.
We're here simply to teach you how to wheelie. We give you our undivided attention from 9.30am until 3pm - how much you learn is down to you!
